midsummer dream
Moves are happening almost on their own now. Sometimes I wonder if the sheep are just managing themselves. Do they even test the fence, is it even on? They seem to know that every day there will be another patch of yummy red clover and alfalfa, and chicory to munch on in the big pasture. Just enough for them to have a big breakfast and then retire to the tree line and catch a nap in the breeze and shade, then head out in the heat for a quick bite. In the hottest part of the day they retire to the shade or the cool of the barn where the fans keep the flies away. In the cooling evening they head out again for a last bite then peruse the pond pasture, eat some good weeds, play around on the row boat, and enjoy the sunset. These are the days I live for, watching this beautiful flock, care for and tend our land, gently, thoughtfully, instinctively, the way Nature intended.
