Exmoors carry genetics so ancient their ancestors arrived in the British Isles over 100,000 years ago, and their bodies still show it — a two-layered waterproof winter coat, a protective eye rim built for moorland weather, and a maternal toughness that has kept this line unbroken through ice ages and world wars. Nearly wiped out in World War II, they are now one of the most critically endangered native pony breeds in the world, - every foal born is a small miracle.
