Fiadh Shetland Roving
3 oz balls of Oatmeal Shetland Roving
Fiadh is my first Moorit (Brown) offspring from Enya and Hamish in 2023. She is a Fawn Katmoget, which is brown based instead of black based. She looked like a baby deer when she was a lamb. Fiadh is the Gaelic word for deer; you pronounce it (fee-ah).
Her fleece is a warm oatmeal color with some warm brown pieces mixed in. Because she has a distinct pattern of light on top and dark brown underside, some of the dark wool on her legs and neck gets mixed in with the light parts. It would produce a slightly heathered effect.
We shear after lambing and before the weather gets too warm. The fleeces are skirted then sent to Illinois Wool and Fiber Mill for a gentle scouring and then carding into this fluffy roving. It is ready for spinning, felting or other crafting projects. This wool takes dyes wonderfully.
